Giresun Kale Broadcast Site Visit: TRT FM Transmitters, GITRAD Repeater and APRS Infrastructure
During my visit to Giresun Kale, I had the opportunity to explore one of the region's most important broadcast and amateur radio sites. The location hosts TRT FM broadcast transmitters, the GITRAD 439.400 MHz UHF repeater, an APRS digipeater station, and several FM broadcasting facilities, making it a significant communication hub for both professional broadcasting and amateur radio activities.
As an Electrical and Electronics Engineer, amateur radio operator (TB7AEK), and RF broadcasting enthusiast, visiting this site was an inspiring experience. Observing the transmission infrastructure, antenna systems, RF equipment, and communication facilities firsthand provided valuable insight into the technologies that ensure reliable radio coverage across the region.
The GITRAD infrastructure plays an important role in supporting amateur radio communications through its UHF repeater network and APRS digipeater systems. These installations enhance regional communication capabilities and contribute to emergency communications while encouraging technical collaboration within the amateur radio community.
Standing among both professional FM broadcast transmitters and amateur radio systems once again highlighted the close relationship between broadcasting engineering and RF communications. Visits like this continue to expand my technical knowledge and strengthen my passion for radio technology, antenna systems, and modern communication infrastructure.
